The overall mean sedimentation rate in the Hutt Estuary for the past 10 years was 2.6 mm/y, increasing to 3.5 mm/y over the last five years, a condition rating of ‘poor’. These results indicate that the intertidal estuary flats remain under pressure from sediment deposition and highlight the need for management of fine sediment inputs.
